Agra and the Taj

Another trip planned and executed in the last moment!

Agra was never in my list for this year. But when Wilson and his brother Livi came to Delhi and after spending a couple of days in Harydwar & Rishikesh, Livi declared he to see the Taj. He kept on saying he has to see the Taj and take a photo standing in front of the epitome of Love! Neither myself nor Wilson were actually interested. Also we were tired after the 2 days in Haridwar. Moreover, I thought "Epitome of Love.." my foot!

However these lil brothers can be very hard to convince and they have their own methods of convincing us! {I know because I'm also a younger brother to someone.. :-) }

We could sleep only for just 5 hrs after coming back from Haridwar. The taxi came to pick us at 6:00 AM. Livi was excited and he sat in the front eagerly watching everything on the way while the other two of us slept peacefuly in the back seat!

When we woke up it was around 9:30 AM and we were somewhere in Uttar Pradesh. We stopped on the way to stretch our limbs and to have breakfast. We reached Agra around 10:30 or 11:00 AM, and went directly to the Taj Mahal. However from 11:00 to 12:00 we had to standing in the queue to get inside!

This is our World wonder!!! Why don't they make some arrangements for the tourist?

After spending some 2 hours inside the Taj Mahal, watching the sights and sounds over there, we decided to move to the Agra fort also known ad the 'Red fort of Agra'. Its just 2 or 3 kms from the Taj Mahal and its also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

On the way, we had our lunch and then spent a couple of hrs in the Agra Fort.

Since they had a flight to catch the next morning, we said our farewell to Agra, bought some Petha sweet and started to Gurgaon.

My Opinion:

Don't Go in Summer. Go in winter!

You want to go there...?

Agra is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, about 205 km south of Delhi and is well connected with the rest of India by Air, Rail and Road.

  • By Air

Agra has a small airport shared by both the Indian Air Force and the civilian sector. It is 7 km from the city center and 3 km from Idgah bus stand.

  • By Road

Idgah bus stand is the main bus stand of Agra, from where one can catch buses for Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura, Fatehpur-Sikri, etc. Buses for Mathura also leave from Agra Fort bus stand.

  • By Rail

Agra is well connected by railroad. The main railway station is the Agra Cantonment station. Agra is well connected by rail to Delhi, Varanasi and Rajasthan.

Best Option is :

Catch a train early morning and reach Agra in 3 hrs. Do the sight seeing, stay there for the night, continue the sight seeing next day and return in the evening! -OR- Take a taxi from Delhi, start early, do the sight seeing in Agra and come back.
