An Epilogue to North East Diaries...

October 7
Gurgaon

It took 8 months to complete our North East travelogue. Many things would have changed during this time. I would have missed out to mention many things here. But even after these 8 months I (and I am sure all my friends too) still cherish the beautiful memories of North East and its people.

The Taxi driver who expressed his bitterness towards the Bandhs in NE and its effect on common man. The Bus driver who confidently took us to Tezpur saying 'Bandh's are so common in these parts and if u sit being afraid then u wont go anywhere'.. The Hotel Owner Aunty in Bomdilla who always sung and kept herself and those nearby in good spirits... The BRO workers who fight the extreme climates and work hard in keeping the roads in better condition for the rest of us... The restaurant girl in Tawang who was always cheerful and never complained even when we changed the menu so many times... Our last day driver Paing who we missed in the Tawang trip... Ranjit Gogoi who helped us in Kaziranga... Rajvinder Singh who was happy to be a driver cum Guide for throughout the Shillong and Cherrapunji trips...

Each of them had so much goodness in them which made us forget the bitter experience with 3 money minded crooks we met in North East.

However its really a sad truth that people over there feel cheated by the negligence of the government towards them. Even though they also belong to our country, many of them feel Indian Govt does not help them like the way it helps other states. After elections no one cares about them or their requirements. Why is it only Delhi or other metros enjoy all the facilities when we are suffering?

As a tourist I dont have any reply to their questions. But as a fellow Indian I too feel that their questions are valid. If their questions are not answered for long, if their requirements are not satisfied... the tensions in the North East will never stop. And travellers will have to hear the;

"North East!!!!
Are you nuts?..." everytime they plan to explore this beautiful part of India.
