Cherrapunjee and Shillong sightseeing with Rajvinder Singh.

Day 7
March 21 2008
Shillong - Cherrapunjee

Rajvider Singh was not Bittu. He came sharply at 8 AM. He came directly to our room and called us "lets go!" What else do you want more?
We started soon and he explained us the various tourist spots in Shillong (the local ones) and the long day trips out of Shillong. Today we were supposed to visit the Cherrapunjee Falls, Masawami Caves, Eco Point, some View Points and a also glimpse of Bangladesh!

We reached the first view Point Duwan Sing SYIEM Bridge. Even though it was just a raised platform from where we could watch the hills and plains below.. (i am saying 'just a..' because the whole route you see the same hills and plains) our Driver stopped the car and told us to enjoy. He laughingly said that the Meghalaya tourism dept has build so many such points in that area. But since you have come from so far to see Meghalaya, its my duty to show you everything! I couldn’t help remembering Bittu in my mind! He could learn a lot from this person!

After some time we continued our journey stopping wherever we wanted and wherever her felt we should see something. It was the best sightseeing trip we had in north East. Soon we reached Cherrapunjee falls. We were standing in the world's highest rainiest place! (Actually now the second) We have covered yet another dream place in our list!

After spending some more time there we started to Maswami caves. We reached there and took tickets. Soon we entered into the earth's belly and wandered deep. It was the first caving experience for all of us and we loved it very much! All the way our driver was giving us good company. The inside of the cave was lit with bulbs and it was a bit cool in there. After climbing and descending and climbing for almost 1 hr we reached the other side of the cave. We all were happy with our first caving experience.

The next stop was the Eco point from where we could see the plains of Bangladesh. There was a small falls and from the viewpoint we watched the plains of Bangladesh. Bittu failed us in showing us China. But Rajvinder fulfilled his promise and showed us Bangladesh!!!

After the Eco point we were tired and decided to return to Shillong. Then we had an idea. The Shillong local sight seeing consisted of:

Elephant falls
Air force museum
Shillong viewpoint
Lady Hydari Park
Ward's Lake and
Golf course
Cathedral of Mary Help of Christian

We told Rajvinder that we want him to take us to show us these places also. Instead of waiting for the next day, we'll cover a few today itself that is on the way. So that next day we can quickly cover the rest and start to Guwahati in the afternoon. Who knows when another strike hits Assam and god knows where we are stranded! We did not want to take any risks.

Rajvinder said OK and we covered the Elephant falls, Air force museum {which was unfortunately closed that day. So we couldn’t not go inside:-( }, Shillong view point, Lady Hydari Park, Ward's Lake and the Golf course (did anyone say 'Golf Course'??.. because other than the meadows the 'over crowded' place had nothing to do with golf these days)

We paid Rajvinder for the Cherrapunjee trip as well as the local sight seeing and thanked him for his great company. He promised to come early next morning and show us the remaining Cathedral and then arrange for the Guwahati Trip. We were very tired that day and after dinner and a little bit of mall road exploring, we went to sleep.
